Handler was educated in Reform Judaism by her father who was Jewish. Handler lived in a great community with a wonderful upbringing. Her move from the city of her birth to Los Angeles when she was aged 19 in order to pursue a career in acting. Handler was obliged to be an actress in order to make ends meet. When she turned aged 21, Handler decided to pursue the stand-up comic profession full-time, as she was able to discover her storytelling talents. Handler started her stand-up career on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Poorly which was a reality program with the use of a hidden camera/practical comedy. From 2002 to 2005, the series aired. Handler then started appearing on other TV shows such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler was a part of The Tonight Show for a period of time as a correspondent. Handler gained notoriety in 2006 when she hosted her E! show. The show was called Chelsea Handler. It lasted two seasons. The following year, Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour in the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcast her stand-up shows. In 2010 the MTV Video Music Awards 2010 were made public. She became only the second woman to ever host VMAs, after Roseanne Bar.
